I am not making an argument for or against the Iraq war. Whether or not I personally believe in it, using a casualty list for the Iraq war is a highly emotional and irrational argument; that is, such a casualty list, by itself without any further argument, cannot serve to justify or condemn such a war. Two thousand deaths can be justified.
However, there is one thing I do protest. I protest the continual spin of the Iraq war by the government, trying to discount the deaths each day. I protest the start of the wars and the unanimous passing of the Patriot Act. And I protest entering a war with shifting reasons, without an exit strategy. I protest those acts because they were justified using a similar, highly emotional argument.
Now the Army Chief of Staff Gen. Peter Schoomaker tells us that we will be maintaining a presence of over 100,000 troops in Iraq for four more years.
Congratulations, Mr. President Bush. Mission Accomplished.
